Songs and Poems
by Doug Midgley
I know you've had songs and poems written for you
And I'm sure my juvenile attempt will fall short of impressing you
But like a job you've got to quit
You won't get nowhere until you admit
You either gave a shit, tried, or you didn't
I guess that's all that I'm doing now

You may be right
We can't be friends
We must both forget
And start anew
But mixed reactions grip my mind
Then you tell me what to do
And then at last but not least
It's all over

Alright you already won
I'm forced to acquiesce
I'll do whatever you think
Is best

You may be right
We can't be friends
We must both forget
And start anew
But mixed reactions grip my mind
Then you tell me what to do
And then at last but not least
It's all over

A new dawn a new day
And you're still in my thoughts
No wink, no smile, no words to exchange
I guess I've got the gist
You want to act like I didn't exist
Leave our life behind, sigh, and forget it
I guess that's all that I can do now
