Getting Ready To Be Lonely

Getting Ready To Be Lonely
By: Doug Midgley with contributions by Allison

It's just another one of those heartbreaking things
Got wrapped around a wedding ring
I guess we tied the knot to snap the tangled strings
We promised a lot before all the arguing
Tried to hold on but we just keep fighting

I'm getting ready to be lonely
I'll be giving him his freedom
He'll get along just fine without me
He keeps telling me the reasons

It's just another one of those heartbreaking deals
There's certain things time can't conceal
Too busy with ourselves to take the time to feel
We lost the love we held and don't know how to heal
Just passed the point of making new appeals

I'm getting ready to be lonely
I'll be giving him his freedom
He'll get along just fine without me
He won't let me forget the reasons

How do you get ready for lonely
How do you prepare for goodbye
I don't want to be lonely
He just keeps making me cry

It's just another one of those heartbreaking moves
Queen missed a pawn and got consumed
We can't be at our best when neither will approve
And it seems obvious my best will never do
Gave it my all but now I see the truth

I'm getting ready to be lonely
I'll be giving him his freedom
He'll get along just fine without me
I can't deny all of the reasons

I'm getting ready to feel
I'm getting ready to face
I don't want all of this freedom
Better lonely than unhappy
This time I think I'm leaving

It's just another heartbreaking
